Conocer en profundidad a los clientes es la clave de un buen negocio; nos abre los ojos a sus preferencias y nos permite entender sus dificultades. Básicamente, los negocios exitosos son aquellos que resuelven de mejor manera las dificultades de los clientes.
La explosión de internet abrió una infinidad de alternativas a los clientes de todos los sectores, haciendo mucho más fácil la comparación de los proveedores. Esa gran cantidad de alternativas disponibles a un solo clic, deja fuera de la carrera a los competidores que no tienen la habilidad de “leer correctamente” a sus clientes.
Es común pensar que se necesita tecnología de punta y sistemas complejos para conocer a los clientes. La idea de que solo con grandes inversiones es posible comprenderlos, está lejos de ser cierta. Sin duda las inversiones en tecnología permiten analizar grandes volúmenes de datos y sacar conclusiones más allá de las capacidades de cálculo del hombre. Eso, por cierto, tiene un gran valor.
Sin embargo, hay 3 simples hábitos que, complementados con la información “dura” del big data o de los estudios de mercado, pueden ser altamente efectivos al momento de investigar a los clientes.
- Pregúntales en profundidad. Los clientes tienen las respuestas que necesitamos para fidelizarlos, sin embargo, no es común que los gerentes y ejecutivos se acerquen a los clientes más representativos para preguntarles directa y abiertamente para recibir su feedback.
- Escucha activamente a tu cliente. La diferencia entre escuchar y escuchar activamente consiste en que al escuchar activamente, le damos la oportunidad al mensaje. No desechamos el mensaje ni le restamos importancia por los prejuicios que, a priori, cada uno de nosotros tiene “instalados”. Al escuchar activamente al cliente, hacemos que la empresa se haga cargo del mensaje y cambie.
- Observa a tu cliente. Una de las antiguas pero valiosas prácticas del retail consiste, simplemente, en pararse en el punto de venta a observar lo que hacen los clientes. Fijándose en los detalles, los ejecutivos que venden sus productos en retail pueden obtener información adicional que de otra manera, pasaría desapercibida. Por ejemplo, cuando una madre compra una carpeta de oficina, ¿la compra para ella? ¿lo comprar para su trabajo? Podríamos descubrir que una madre compra una carpeta para la hija que la acompaña en su compra en el supermercado, con el fin de guardar sus trabajos escolares.
